Cinco de Mayo is about the win of the Mexican army on May 5,1862 over the French empire, fought at the battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexico war. Yes there a difference between Cinco de Mayo and the Mexican Independence day. Mexican Independence day is about the war won over the Spain empire in September 16,1810 this is celebrated with National Pride with mariachi, lots of food and colorful parade. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated a lot different then the Mexico independence its celebrated with just lots of Mexican food and margaritas. I don't think my family would do anything today we just probably say, "Happy Cinco De Mayo" to each other.
